AREC is the vital Hampton Roads Agricultural Research and Extension Center located at 1444 Diamond Springs Road.
Enter at main gate. Here’s where to park. We’ll be there until 3pm.
Larger trees will be available for adoption for a $25 donation which includes annual membership to FOLO. Smaller trees will be available for a $10 donation.
We will have an adoption form on site for you to complete. You may want to bring a plastic bag to place your tree in to prevent any spills in your vehicle. Also remember to bring either cash or a check for the tree or tree(s) you may like to adopt.
If you would like to help us with this event, please advise. If you have friends who you think would like to adopt a live oak, please feel free to let them know!

Incredible tree data created by Environmental Studies Program(ESP).
Fun was had by all retrieving 35 small saplings from Wesminister-Canterbury yesterday!
Chris, Nadine & Clay working on the largest one – a thriving live oak volunteer that needed to get some TLC by transplanting on site. A thriving live oak volunteer (& FOLO volunteers) that was carefully moved so it could really thrive in a better location. The root ball was amazing! Nadine & Clay cheesing with the new location. 😁Identifying the saplings & diggin em up. Teamwork is the dream work. Tim, Nadine, Chris, Howard, Clay & Drew with a few of the rescued 35 saplings. Howard & Chris repotting the saplings using McDonald’s Garden Center’s Natural & Organic Potting Soil before they’re moved to AREC.
Thanks to our partnership with McDonalds Garden Center we used 7 bags of their Natural & Organic Potting Soil. They donated 150 bags for our partnership with AREC & VDOF to build an inventory of live oaks from Virginia Beach.
A few of the rescued saplings. Pine cones placed in pots to deter squirrels digging up the smaller ones.
